On Thursday, the counseling graduate students and our undergraduate student led a staff workshop for members of Health and Wholeness Ethiopia, a non-profit that serves vulnerable children, women and youth in Ethiopia. Their programs encourage self-employment and income generation, children and family life education, health awareness, business skills training, social work and community development.
The students, pictured above with staff members including the organization’s executive director Alehubel Alemaw Bizuneh (second from right), shared information on:
· reproductive health
· a counseling technique called motivational interviewing
· self-care
· expressive arts
Our entire group visited Health and Wholeness Ethiopia the previous Monday to learn how the organization works with children who are orphaned, girls who have escaped from prostitution, or youth and women suffering other plights. Bizenuh asked if members of our group could share expertise to help them better serve these groups.
